About Port Orange
Port Orange Florida is located in Volusia County Florida. Port Orange is close to world famous beaches such as Daytona Beach and also close to the famous Daytona Speedway. Residents of Port Orange can enjoy the attractions nearby in Orlando and Kissimmee, as well as Silver Springs in Ocala. Port Orange takes us back into history to the times when the Timucuan and Seminole Indians resided in the community and then later on to be inhabited by Dr. Andrew Turnbull’s New Smyrna Colony in 1768. During the plantation period (late 1700’s – early 1800’s), many explorers traveled to Florida to try and claim the land. With an unforgiving environment at times and tropical, temperate climate, these explorers began to settle in the area producing crops a plenty. In 1804, Patrick Dean, another well known settler, was granted 995 acres from the Spanish Crown. This large acreage was later named the Dunlawton Plantation and housed the Dunlawton Sugar Mill. The Dunlawton Sugar Mill has withstood a lot over the years. Twice it was destroyed by the Seminole Indians during the war in 1836. After the Civil War, Port Orange welcomed Dr. John Milton Hawks, an abolitionist and United States Army Surgeon. Dr. Hawks, along with other Union Army officers, later formed what was known as the Florida Land and Lumber Company. Dr. Hawks and his officers relocated over 500 freed slaves to the area using the public lands near Spruce Creek. In 1867, Port Orange (then known as Orange Port) was moved from Ponce Inlet to where it is located today. BY the time of this move, Port Orange had a new name and only nine families remained. Due to poor planning and bad harvests, the slaves, who had come to inhabit Port Orange, were lost to their dreams as the economy hit some major landslides. Port Orange kept its African-American heritage after this decline and today you can still visit Mount Oriah Baptist Church, the only church standing that was built by these freed slaves and the original settlers. With a population of about 58,000, Port Orange is home to many major corporations such as Halifax Community Health System, Northstar Food Service, Thompson Pump and Manufacturing, Don Bell Industries, Meypack Packing Systems USA, La-Man Inc. and Sun Coast Imaging. Residents can also feel at home with Port Orange’s Volusia County Schools, offering students an A rated public school education including Spruce Creek High School having been named in the nation’s top 100 schools. Port Orange is close to I-4 and I-95 allowing easy travel to locations such as Tampa, Orlando, Miami, Jacksonville, Palm Coast and more. Port Orange is 28 square miles and its residents show much pride in their communities. There are around 150 distinct communities within Port Orange and more developments are forming each year.

How long does it take to get listed in MLS?
- For same day listing entry Mon-Fri: listing must be complete* by 2PM EST. (If holiday, listing entered following business day.)
- Saturday & Sunday: Completed listings will be entered on the next business day (Monday unless holiday).
- SOLO may take up to 48 hours but are typically done the same day if all info is complete by 1pm EST.
