About Baker County
Baker County was established in 1861 and named for a Confederate Senator, James McNair Baker. This County covers 585 square miles on the border of Florida and Georgia. The northern edge of Baker County is part of the Okefenokee Swamp and Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge. Baker County is predominately an agricultural area, only having two incorporated areas; the county seat of Mcclenny and Glen St. Mary. The population of Baker County was about 22,000 in the 2000 census. The entire county of Baker County is considered to be part of the Jacksonville Metropolitan Area.
