Chickasaw Gardens sits on 160 acres of land originally purchased by Clarence Saunders in 1921. Saunders envisioned a grand country estate (known now as the Pink Palace Museum) with extensive gardens, a five-acre lake with island, and spent nearly 1 million dollars on the project (not including the finished estate home).
