Largo is part of the Tampa Bay area, and the third largest city in Pinellas County, Florida. It was first created in 1905. Largo began as an exporter of agricultural products until the 1960’s when the influx of people turned it into the third largest city in Florida most densely populated county. From the years of 1905-2005 the population of Largo grew from 300 people to over 70,000. During the years between 1910 and 1930 the population increased over 500%. At that time, and for much time after, Largo’s economy was based on citrus farming and cattle ranching. Largo is still remembered as “Citrus City”.Once the Great Depression hit the population dropped 30% and the debts Largo ensued were not paid off until Wold War II. In 1995 Largo Central Park opened, a 70 acre park located in downtown Largo. Inside Largo Central Park are both the Largo Cultural Center and The Largo Public Library. This park is also known for it’s open spaces, children's playground, fountains and landmark clock tower. Besides Largo Central Park, Largo is home to 640 acres of parks.
