Dunedin is a city that sits on central Florida’s west coast in Pinellas County. As of 2004 the population of Dunedin was about 36,632. Scottish families originally settled in the City of Dunedin 1899. The name Dunedin comes from “Dun Eideann”, the Scottish Gaelic name for Edinburgh, which is the capital of Scotland. To maintain and embrace it’s Scottish Roots, once a year Scottish clans come to the city for the Dunedin Highland Games. You can hear the sound of the bagpipes throughout the city during the festival. Many other festivals are held here in Dunedin, the most popular being Dunedin's Mardi Gras Celebration. The City of Dunedin is known for being home to many beaches including Honeymoon Island, Dunedin Causeway, and Caladesi Island State Park which is rated as one of the best beaches in the world. Since 1977 Dunedin has also been home to the Toronto Blue Jays for spring training as well as the Dunedin Blue Jays who are part of the Florida State League. Dunedin Stadium is used for the Blue Jays spring training and was built as a replacement to Grant Field the first stadium used by the Blue Jays.
