Sunny Isles Beach is a city located in northeast Miami-Dade County, Florida. Sunny Isles Beach is on a barrier island and is bounded by the Atlantic Ocean to the east and the Intracoastal Waterway to the west. Sunny Isles Beach was originally purchased in 1920 by a private investor who names it Sunny Isles- "The Venice of America". In 1926 an all wooden racetrack was built but was destroyed after only one race by a major hurricane. This event became known as "Fulford's Folly". In 1936 Kurdis Froedtert bought Sunny Isles and it continued to develop through the 1950s. Throughout the 50's and 60's it became a very popular tourist spot. Sunny Isles Beach is now in the middle of major redevelopment. It is a flourishing resort area where developers such as Donald Trump have been in high rise hotels and condos. Sunny Isles is known for it's cultural diversity and is sometimes referred to as "Little Moscow" due to it's large population of Russians and Russian Americans. Collins Ave is filled with diverse stores and runs all the way down to the nightlife in Miami Beach.
