About Oakland Park
After the 1926 hurricane the devastated the Town of Floranda, the residents decided to start anew and rename the area to Oakland Park, Florida. With its new name, Oakland Park began to flourish and grow from a small town to a beautiful, residential city. Today, Oakland Park is a family-oriented community that is preserving its history while staying abreast with needs and wants of city life. Oakland Park has a notable community recreation program with many family activities such as Father's Day Fishing Tournament, a festival celebrating Dr. G Woodson (founder of Black History Month), and the largest Oktoberfest in the Broward/Dade County area.
