Mulberry is a city that was named after the mulberry tree the railroad stopped at in the 1800’s. This tree became the meeting place for the residents and visitors to the area, and thus, the town was named. Originally, the major industry to the area was logging long leaf pines that dominated the gently rolling landscape of Florida’s central highlands. In the late 1800’s, phosphate was found in the Peace River Valley. The industry of Mulberry swiftly changed to phosphate mining. Today, Mulberry is known as the “Phosphate Mining Capitol of the World”. Mulberry’s Bone Valley is the most productive phosphate mine in the world.
