There are over 30 lakes and ponds located in the city of Casselberry but the largest of the group are Lake Howell, The Triplet Chain of Lakes, Lake Kathryn, and Lake Concord.
In 1926 Hibbard Casselberry, a man from Illinois, was visiting family in Winter Park, when he met Gordon Barnett and became his sales agent for the Fern Park Estates. The two men soon split but Casselberry had already purchased land and began planning his own subdivision. Hibbard Casselberry continued to expand his real estate business and convinced the people of the area that the best way to avoid property taxes was to incorperate their own tax free town. In 1940 the tax-free town of Casselberry was officially incorporated. The City of Casselberry was incorporated in 1965 and the citizens finally decided to have property taxes in 1976.
