The City of St. Pete Beach is a barrier island in Pinellas County, Florida. The island of Treasure Island is to to north and Tierra Verde is to the south. In 1994, the citizens decided to shorten the name to St. Pete Beach. The shorter name is what people often called it anyway and the move helped lessen the confusion with the City of St. Petersburg, located on the mainland to the east.
