Jules Verne was the French author who wrote "From the Earth to the Moon" and for whom this park was named after. While Jules Verne never came to Florida, he did have a vision for "Columbiad," a imaginary manned rocket ship to be fired from a cannon from "Tampa Town" to the moon. 100 years later, a space ship did reach the moon which was launched from NASA's John F. Kennedy Space Center.
Jules Verne Park is now called Ballast Point Park and offers picnic shelters, a space-themed playground, bait shop, boat ramp, public restrooms and a fishing pier with a small restaurant inside the park called Taste of Boston.
