About Pensacola

The population of Pensacola belies it true standing in the state and region. Because it has maintained an opposition to annexation, its population has held its 2000 Census figure at 56, 255. The population of the Pensacola Urbanized Area, however, is the eighth in the state at 321,875. Pensacola is actively executing plans to boost the local economy building on some of the area's special assets, such as some of the nation's best health care, a culture of research and innovation, a growing and vibrant downtown, seven colleges and universities and an ambitious waterfront project and downtown improvement plan.
