The Hernando County Association of Realtors in located at 8449 Cobb Road, Brooksville, FL 34601. On January 2, 1887, the Florida Legislature divided Hernando County into three independent counties: Citrus County to the north, Hernando County in the middle and Pasco County to the south. The largest truck-to-truck distribution center in the US is located in Ridge Manor. Approximately 36 acres (1,600,000 square feet) in size is the Wal-Mart Distribution Center. Also located in Hernando County are Weeki Wachee Springs-Buccaneer Bay and Rogers' Christmas House and Village. Weeki Wachee Springs is a natural tourist attraction with mermaids, boat rides, bird and reptile shows, and water rides galore. If you love Christmas, you will love Rogers' Christmas House and Village (http://www.rogerschristmashouse.com). From Christmas trees to ornaments to crystal collectibles, it’s the place to shop. Brooksville is the county seat for Hernando County and was once a major citrus production area and was known as the "Home of the Tangerine." Brooksville was named in honor of Representative Preston Brooks of South Caroline due to his role he played in a drama that took place in the Chamber of the U.S. Senate; Brooks beat Senator Charles Sumner with his cane in the Senate chamber because of a speech Sumner had made critical of slavery and its southern supporters. Formal Philadelphia Eagles player Jerome Brown and current Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum are two of the many notable residents Brooksville has.
